D1 Driver Training
Support from our dedicated team throughout a process designed to increase the chances of passing first-time
Who needs D1 driver training?
You have to have D1 entitlement on your driving licence if you are paid to drive, and/or are driving a vehicle with a GVW over 3500kg (4250kg for electric vehicles).
If you passed your driving test before January 1997, you will have inherited D1 entitlement on your licence as part of that test.
However, there is a big difference in driving a minibus full of passengers and driving a car; just because you’re legal doesn’t mean you’re safe.
We recommend that all minibus drivers take the full D1 licence, even if they have inherited the D1 (101). By taking the full D1 driver test you can be sure that there will be no issue as to whether your drivers are ‘volunteers’ and are driving for social purposes only. This is a condition under the Section 19 Permit.
Only two days away from normal duties to complete the D1 practical training and test
The secret to the success of passing D1 driver training is ensuring delegates are ready for their theory test, and then one-to-one driver training immediately before the test. We can see how much revision your staff have done before we book their theory test, and then we will book their driver training and test together, to ensure they are concurrent.
Many organisations are concerned that the D1 driving test will take their staff away from normal duties for long periods of time. We complete the practical training and test in two days.
Rivervale Minibus’ ADIs (Advanced Driving Instructors) come with their own minibuses, so yours won’t be out of action. We have a proven track record in delivering effective training and helping your staff to obtain their D1 license first time.

The best chance of a stress-free first-time pass
We have a proven track record in helping organisations get their drivers through the stages required for a D1 license. It’s not just the drivers that need to do some work, there is quite a bit of admin involved too.
Our team will talk you through all that’s needed before the theory test; applying for the provisional licence, the eyesight and medical checks, and revision. We have software to help support the theory part of the test, to ensure your candidates are ready, and finally, we provide the 1-2-1 practical training in our minibuses, which culminates with the practical tests.
Having worked with over 2000 schools, academies, colleges, and charitable organisations across the UK, we have earned a reputation for delivering exceptional service and training to help all your staff with the D1 licence process.
